Prescriptions

Repeat Prescriptions

Please allow two full working days for prescriptions to be processed and remember to take weekends and bank holidays into account.

You can place orders in the following ways:

  • In person – drop your repeat prescription request in the box located in the reception area.
  • By post – post us your requests with a self addressed stamped envelope and we will post your prescription. Please allow enough postal time.
  • Online – follow the link at the top of this page to complete a simple registration.
  • Phone– We do not take repeats orders over the Phone. This decision has been taken in the best of patient safety.
  • Note: As per Practice Policy, we do not allow Pharmacies to order on behalf of a patient. This is part of our efforts to be in more control of their care needs and to avoid any over-ordering. But Pharmacies can collect on a patient’s behalf as long as patient is signed up for such a service and we hold a written consent.

Urgent Prescriptions

Requests for urgent prescriptions will be ready to be collected by 16:00 the same day, but please try to request these in person during the morning. We will assess the urgency on a case to case basis.

Medication Reviews

Patients on repeat medication will be asked to see a doctor, nurse practitioner or practice nurse at least once a year to review these regular medications and notification should appear on your repeat slip. Please ensure that you book an appropriate appointment to avoid unnecessary delays to further prescriptions.

Prescriptions Charges and Exemptions

Extensive exemption and remission arrangements protect those likely to have difficulty in paying charges (NHS prescription and dental charges, optical and hospital travel costs).

The NHS prescription charge is a flat-rate amount which successive Governments have thought it reasonable to charge for those who can afford to pay for their medicines. Prescription prepayment certificates (PPCs) offer real savings for people who need extensive medication.

NHS charges

These charges apply in England only. In Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales prescriptions are free of charge.

  • Prescription (per item): £8.80
  • 12-month prepayment certificate (PPC): £104.00
  • 3-month PPC: £29.10

If you will have to pay for four or more prescription items in three months, or more than 15 items in 12 months, you may find it cheaper to buy a PPC.

There is further information about prescription exemptions and fees on the NHS website

Important Note:

1- Gate Pharmacy is NOT part of Gate Medical Centre and operates as a separate business. Patients are FREE to use any pharmacy of their choice.
